Epitaph - Legion of the Lost

Not everyone lives forever. Sometimes chance plays a factor, other time poor decisions, either way in any game there are sure to be causalities. These are the heroic men and women that just didn’t make it. Many of these characters went to the grave with unfulfilled destinies or unrealized dreams, but that doesn’t make them any less important to the history of the setting. In fact, it is sometimes only through their noble sacrifices that the setting (or their friends!) managed to survive at all. So here we are at the Hall of Heroes!

Alexander Wilfred Percival III
“The Dom”

Bio
The Dom doesn’t have a past; only the dim shadow of a past life as an arrogant rich kid with a family who turned their backs on him because he wanted to live. He was diagnosed with a terminal illness and given 12 months to live and he decided that instead he will become a Juicer and live 5 years as a god! His family turned their backs on him; saying he was an abomination so he let Alexander Wilfred Percival III die and made a new life for himself… as the ‘Dom’; a 6’6” tanned and tanked killing machine with a small blonde mowhawk and a bad attitude.

Disposition
Becoming a juicer hasn’t lowered his arrogance but has given him the superhuman abilities to back it up so now he plans on living the remaining time on this world he has like a total badass. He wants to live his life on one complete adrenaline rush and fight dinosaurs and bed every barbarian woman he can find. ‘What’s the point on living if you don’t make it a blast? Live fast die young; because nobody lives forever’. He wants to continue the legacy of the Dom by siring as many children as he can and uniting all the barbarian clans under him; with him as their king.

Death
The Dom committed suicide during the final battle with the Legacy of Thule and Vallax mothership rather than perishing at their hands. His lifeless corpse was last seen toppling into the inland ocean when Florida was obliterated.

Casey Willson

Bio
At the age of 5, with no siblings, Casey had to mature very quickly and beyond his years after his father was killed in a twisted home invasion. Casey witnessed his father, nothing more than a tradesman, give everything he could to protect his family from harm, everything, until he could give no more. Only then did the authorities help, but the family was broken. Dad was gone, mum lost control and turned to drinking and selling herself. Casey now has 7 younger brothers and sisters, all to different fathers, but to him, they are still his family. Casey joined an upstart militia when he was 10, admittedly without the knowledge of the militia, but something in Casey was burning, and it was all the wrong that surrounded him, and that needed changing. One night A cyber knight witnessed the militia fighting a burning building that was renowned for the homeless taking refuge within its walls, and was disappointed that they’re true concern was the fire spreading to their own quarters. But as he dismounted and made his way to the fire, he saw movement between the flames. It was young Casey, dragging each of the unconscious bodies, one by one, with what little strength he had to the rear door, where the flames hadn’t reached yet. The knight yelled " What the hell are you doing boy!?"
Casey, dragging another body to the door said “I can’t open the door! They are still alive!”
That night, the Knight saved a lot of people, but the kid was there first and did the hard work. The old cyber knight saw potential in this child, and the heart of this boy was strong, and would never give up.

Death
It was Casey’s ironclad determination and quick thinking allowed the intrepid heroes of Rifts®: Deluge to temporary invert the Vallax fields by overloading an E.M.P. generator so they could make it through the shield and break into the vessel. Although he was unable to stop the destruction of Florida or the annihilation wave, his quick thinking resulted in the destruction of the Legacy of Thule and may well have saved all of the North American continent from an invasion by a legion of monstrous undead dinosaurs.

Quentin Rockefeller Jr.
“Cup”

Bio
There was once a little boy in America. This little boy was the black sheep of a wealthy and powerful family. Ignored by his parents, bullied by his elder siblings. Why? Because when he was still a babe in his crib, strange things occurred at every turn that could only be explained by a magical potential. Now there are thousands of families that this would be welcome, but not this family.

At the innocent age of four the little boy was playing alone in a dusty treeless park with butterflies when he was led away by an old disheveled Japanese man. Only giving the name of Uncle to the boy, they disappeared, leaving in their wake a ransom note. However, the family never came looking for the boy. Uncle, who was looking to gain some much needed money from this escapade, was now stuck with a decision to make – kill or leave the boy to his certain death, return the boy and bring further shame to his honor, or take the boy as an apprentice of his very own. The two walked off into the dust.

Over the years that passed, the drunkard “Uncle” trained the boy in many skills. For stealing alcohol and food for Uncle, he would train him on day to day basis martial arts. Day to day meaning; if he brought back good food and wine, the lessons were ancient Japanese martial skills. Bad food and or wine would bring angry samurai body hardening and discipline techniques, known only to the boy as “STICK TO FACE!!!”

Even though the years were long and hard, the boy never questioned Uncle, for this still was the most fair treatment he had received since birth, and the boy felt a sense of peace in his heart from his successes and failures, and most of all, always getting back up.

The most frequent occurrence in his life was always after training. Whether his training was skills, or “Stick to Face!” they would retire to the campfire for a meal and drink. Where Uncle would shake his empty cup at the boy screaming at him: “CUP! BOY, CUP!” until he filled it with wine or sake. And repeat until they fell asleep at the foot of the fire, only to wake in the morning to begin the ordeal all over again. The boy adopted the name of Cup, because he much preferred that to ‘boy’, plus, it was one of the only ways that brought a smile to the hardened face of uncle when he drank, and that was Cup’s favourite time of day. So much so that he started to steal extra alcohol so that he could drink with Uncle and smile with the only man to pay him attention, good or not.

Twenty years past, Cup is twenty four, and whilst strong like the warrior Uncle was trying to create, the years of drinking and living in squalor had taken its toll and Cup looked less than a Japanese warrior and more like a filthy wino from the streets of Bangladesh!

Uncle, now on his deathbed, once a proud great warrior turned tramp, called Cup to him as he done many times before.
Uncle: “Boy”
Cup: “Yes master?”
Uncle: “I stole you from family when you child!”
Cup: “————!?!”
Uncle: “HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!”
Cup: “—————————-he hehe haha HAHAHA!”
Uncle: “HAAHHAH—UUUUUGHHH!”
Cup: “UNCLE? NO!”

Not knowing where he is from, who he really was or even is, Uncle was a cruel bastard and now dead, Cup takes the staff that used to be his ultimate punishment from the dead Uncle, and a letter he finds in his hands, and shambles away. His only friend now, is his only demon, and as he disappears through the tree line he drinks deep and long from his wine flask!

Disposition
Cup is a friendly drunk and a generally resourceful person, or at least he was. Now he’s worm food and doesn’t do a lot of talking.

Death
Cup was killed when he was impaled through the chest by one of Willy Wykl’s Corrupt servant girls during the final raid on the Harm House. He was later buried with his Crystal Staff outside of an abandoned village near an erratic ley line Nexus.

David Delarosa

Bio
Growing up as an orphan in the Garbage Pit dimension planet of GP-201 life was tough for Delarosa who had to try and survive in the junkyards and scrapheaps. He spent most of his early life scavenging through to junk to try and make money to survive. He made what he could and although he could barely make enough money to feed him, he shared what he could with other orphans who were less lucky than he was. Close to Delarosa’s 10th birthday, he found a most peculiar item. It was a guitar and for being discovered in the garbage pit dimension; it was in surprisingly good condition. David strummed the instrument and felt the notes echo through his entire soul. Not really knowing how to play a guitar, he sought to teach himself and came up with his own style and to his surprise people seemed to enjoy it too. His music was a mixture of power metal and punk rock that seemed to invigorate and empower the soul.

After a while Delarosa began to perform busking acts more and more as a way of making ends meet but he never stopped helping those less fortunate than he was. Although he had next to nothing, he still decided that there were others that needed help more than he did. Maybe it was this self-sacrificing attitude he had, or maybe some other unknowable quality but one night Delarosa was confronted with a startling dream. What he saw can never truly be put into words but he was met with a miasma of light and images; a thousand, thousand faces shining cosmic light like an ocean of stars beheld which limitless knowledge and wisdom.

Death
Delarosa upon trying to protect the rest of the teleported crew from the horrors of the Void (including that Gate of Gluttony) sacrificed his life in order to provide a decoy for the remaining soldiers to sneak through the gate and return to known space. He caused significant damage and mayhem to the unsuspecting Vallax forces but he was unable to destroy the jump-gate and stop the armada from attacking the allied forces. Delarosa’s eviscerated corpse continues to float in the darkness of the Void, never to be returned to normal space.

Delarosa died with no regrets, he did his part to save the universe and if nothing else he stopped or at least delayed the Gate of Gluttony’s arrival into the known universe.

“Good luck guys, I did what I could but I fear it may not have been enough. For those of you who remain I pass the torch to you; make me proud.”
– Delarosa’s final thoughts to all Cosmo Knights and Allied forces still fighting to save the cosmos."

Drogo

Bio
Drogo was born with the bloood of his tribe’s Chieftain and as per hereditary rule, he was destined to follow in his father’s footsteps and be next to rule. This is a destiny that has yet to come to pass.
Drogo was born extremely sickly and weak, even at the age of 4 he was unable to ride. A Simvan that cannot ride is not a Simvan at all – this was a fact Drogo’s father both realized and valued. His father’s love was not enough to compensate for the shame he felt toward his sickly son. Drogo was to be discarded so a new, stronger, and more respectable son could take his position. Drogo’s father left him alone and unequipped in Dinosaur Swamp, knowing quite well that the little weakling would have no chance of survival. “Knowing” quite well may have been an exaggeration for that was an eventuality that did not come to pass. Through little more than luck, Drogo not only managed to endure the fate his father left upon him, but he flourished under those conditions. No-one had ever realized this simple fact but Drogo was far from weak. It was his father’s weakness that led him to become to sickly – rather than facing the trials of life like the other Simvan, Drogo was coddled by his father and his development suffered for it. Now alone and rid of his father’s weakness, Drogo gained the strength his father had previously denied him, and grew to be a Simvan worthy of his heritage. Now that he has gained the strength he needs, he now just needs a mount worthy enough for a being of his stature to ride. Drogo seeks the biggest, baddest Dinosaur in the Swamp to claim as his own, so he can return to his tribe and leave an impression. Right now his thoughts all lead to that conclusion – he seeks to return to his tribe so he can bestow the greatest shame a Simvan can face, upon his father. He wishes to eat his father’s steed.

Disposition
Although his own needs are his priority, he genuinely cares about the swamp and its people and wants to see it flourish. Although, the animals are his true passion. He knows people seem to have trouble adapting to his alien mind and affection from animals is much simpler to maintain.

Death
Drogo died upon the assault of the Vallax Mothership. After a hole was blown in the hull, Drogo saw an opportunity to enter. Passionately seeking to keep his swamp safe, he asked Franco to toss him through the hole. Excited by every opportunity to show off his brute strength, Franco threw the powerless Simvan at supersonic speeds and watched him splatter against the side of the ship.

Albert J. Nix.
“Erasmus”

Bio
Erasmus (a name given to himself – don’t ask his real name, he won’t tell you) was a street urchin of a small town. A minor pest but nothing too unwelcomed. His status within the realm soon came to rise at the age of 11 when he developed mystical abilities and declared himself the greatest fortune teller in the land.
Although for unknown reasons he had no Psionic abilities, his predictions were eerily accurate. His accuracy wasn’t due to mystical prowess but a combination of un-detailed, generic predictions, the ability to sell a story and usually, pure, dumb luck. Regardless of the authenticity of his Mystic capabilities, he earned some renown as a psychic and more importantly to him, he earned a decent amount of credits.
His fortunes soon reversed in his 20s with a rather unwelcome transition. He was bestowed with the abilities of a Nightbane. Instinctively knowing exactly why he was given his monstrous power and the fact that he was expected to help combat alien forces of extreme power, he was consumed by fear. Afraid of his destiny and willing to do whatever it took to erase his part in it, he became his own worst enemy. Rather than trying to sell a somewhat plausible and unique prediction of a happy life to his customers, his prophecies became stagnant and predictable – this was purely because he chose to give the same prediction each and every time. “You will encounter a powerful enemy known as a Nightlord, but with great skill and flawless precision, you will slay the beat bringing peace and prosperity to the lands and riches and women of unquestionable quality to yourself! You must seek this enemy immediately and earn the greatness your destiny holds!”. Although he may have inspired a few fools to blindly throw their lives away in an attempt to take over Erasmus’s role in the Nightlord’s invasion, the ruse didn’t last long. It didn’t take long for people to realize his predictions were always the same and that he was ultimately a fraud. After a short run being chased by angry villagers with pitchforks and flaming torches, Erasmus’s career as a prophet was over and his life as an adventurer just beginning. His ambitions still haven’t changed, he seeks to find those that will rid the Earth of Nightlords so he doesn’t have to.

Disposition
Erasmus is incapable of learning from his mistakes. Although he has been run out of town once, he still continues his Mystical charade and offers the same predictions each and every time. His reason primarily being a heightened survival instinct and a general lack of consideration what what happens to those he speaks to. He carries himself aloofly, only ever giving real thought and attention when he is performing his act. Even when off the clock, he tries to keep up his mystical charade, being as flamboyant as possible.

Death
Although Erasmus never acted as a man of worth, he finally found a moment of value in his death. As a robot was triggering its self-destruct, sure to result in a nuclear explosion, Erasmus sacrificed himself swarming the bomb with his blood powers and containing the explosion within his own body.

Frenkyo Clesti
“Franco Cletus”

Bio
Frenkyo Clesti is a mischievous earth-born Power Leech that was raised in a small subterranean community that had survived in secret by rationing the power reserves of a left over NEMAN power plant. Fearful of the raiders, contact with the outside world was strictly forbidden but that didn’t stop Frenkyo from playing pranks on unsuspecting passers-by. Unfortunately for Frenkyo one of his pranks backfired and a small scouting group of Shemarrians followed him back to the hatch and the community hidden within. Although able to overpower, capture, and restrain the invaders the cages required to hold them drew heavily from the plant. Forced to tighten their belts (and as punishment for his troublesome pranks), Frenkyo was sent out into the world to fend for himself. Abandoned by his people, Frenkyo adopted the much more human sounding name Franco. Frenkyo is a roguishly handsome Power Leach with phthalo blue skin and electric crimson eyes. At the time he was captured by the Coalition States Frenkyo was wearing heavy overalls with sturdy pockets over a high-tech skintight black jumpsuit.

Disposition
Although he means no harm, Frenkyo is a troublesome prankster and would much sooner humiliate his enemies by frightening with a gag pistol than dispose of them with lethal force. He often pretends to be much less intelligence than he actually is and is happiest when one of his gadgets or pranks make him the center of attention.

Death
Although Frenkyo survived the blast that killed all of his friends and created the inland ocean where Florida once was, he was later gunned down by a squadron of Coalition Samas that had been sent to investigate the destruction and, if possible, recover the operatives that had been lost in that region following the crash of a Death’s Head Transport three weeks prior.

Glade Súrion

Bio
Glade’s parents lived in a nomadic village of Elven Biomancers until an unforeseen raid by a Necromancer and his undead minions that devastated their makeshift village. His parents killed in the attack, Glade was stunned to find their bodies and those of many of his friends and the undead scattered about his village. However, when he approached the Elves for answers they refused to give the child any information; attempting to shield him from the trauma until he was older and more emotionally mature. So, under the cover of darkness Glade went to the grave of the necromancer and excavated his body, recovering his spell book in the vain hopes it might hold some clue to who was responsible for the death of his family. From the book Glade gleaned more than he could’ve ever imagined, including the names and approximate locations of his parents killers. He taught himself necromancy in secret from the spell book, vowing to exact revenge upon those who had taken his parents from him with the very magic they had used.

Disposition
Although a rather selfish and grim person, shortly after the death of his new friend “Erasmus”, Glade suffered massive psychological trauma that caused a complete turn around in his behavior. Reinventing himself in his madness, Glade suppressed his selfish and evil impulses, hiding from who he really was and was “reborn” a good and selfless man.

Death
Glade died heroically alongside Casey Willson facing the Vallax mothership. Although he perished, his sacrifice destroyed Legacy of Thule thereby fulfilling his vow to avenge the death of his parents.

King

Bio
King was the last survivor of a batch of chickens that were being used in one of Doctor Bastardstro’s many eugenics programs. Having thought the hatchery destroyed, the mad Doctor abandoned his research as his attention shifted from the study of mutant animals to human test subjects. Surviving unmolested for some time, the chickens continued to lay and eventually King would hatch. Possessing human intelligence and psychic abilities unlike the other chickens (or “Chakens” as he dubbed them), King declared himself their king and was consumed by delusions of grandeur. One evening while receiving a precognitive flash, King saw a vision of “the Fox Tribe” (a family of mundane foxes) devouring his people. Panicking and falling victim to his prey brain, King fled when the attack finally occurred and his people were devoured. Following the destruction of his “race”, King ventured out into the world alone and started making his living as a bounty hunter.

Disposition
King was a loyal friend and a skilled bounty hunter with formidable combat prowess, although he was often prone to flights of cowardice.

Death
King suffered lethal injuries from an explosion triggered while Rha’lak Dovekk was attempting to surgically remove a cybernetic explosive device from the neck of a Black Marketeer. The fierce Chaken King was able to survive the initial brunt of the explosion but later perished on the operating table. In accordance with his dying wishes he was eaten by his companions. He was delicious.

Rebecca Barton

Bio
Rebecca grew up in a dysfunctional family her father was a drunkard who beat both her mother and her growing up, taking out his frustration that he had a daughter instead of a son. That was her life up until 8 years old where some being of some power heard her pleas and she was taken in by the temple in the town much to everyone’s surprise as most of the priests there tended to stick to themselves unless there was a sermon or event taking place. Ever since that day she devoted herself to becoming a priestess of one of the deities in that temple, The god Horus the great sphinx. Rebecca is very much a placid person doesn’t rise to anger quickly and will not try to kill in combat only maim at most unless the person has caused a heinous act of great evil and even then she will prefer to subdue or possibly maim the person so they can be taken to the proper authorities.

Death
Rebecca attracted the attention of Doctor Bastardstro after healing the legs of a vagrant he had been tormenting in preperation for M.O.M. augmentation. Consequently and seemingly without rhyme nor reason, the young priestess was kidnapped and relocated to the mad Doctor’s labyrinthine deathtrap deep within the bowels of Tritonia. Bitter to witness such a noble soul, the Doctor’s mad plans were to expose the girl to the worst qualities of humanity in an effort to crush her spirit and shatter her faith in a higher power. However, she quickly met her end on one of the traps within; brutally dismembered by vibro-ripper spikes. Dying with her faith and purity in tact, Rebecca is sure to be rewarded by her pantheon in the afterlife.

Rex von Lizard

Bio
Rex von Lizard was a Fire Warlock from an obscure race of silver salamander that originated on Palladium World. He was banished to Rifts Earth as punishment after almost burning down a a wing of the Library of Bletherad during a prank gone wrong. Living a civil servant, his life took a drastic turn when he crossed paths with the Water Warlock Peter Johnson and promised to aid him in his personal quest to get to the bottom of the bootleg liqueur business in Douzor.

Disposition
Snarky and crude; Rex is always good for a laugh and loves to pull pranks on unsuspecting bystanders. He may often seem to be a bad person (and often he might be) but he is far from being a monster and is often quite reasonable once you get past his crude demeanor.

Death
In a tragic twist of fate, Rex was crushed under the foot of Rigor the Aqua Hydra after striking him permanently blind. Rex was laid to rest in the Firebreath Trunk by his companions who believed it is what he would have wanted; having commented prior to his death that the fiery trunk would have made the perfect bed.
