Rifts®: Megaversal Highway™
“What do you know about it, you were born with a silver spoon in your mouth – have you ever even had to work for anything! So don’t lecture me about ‘right’ and ‘wrong’ from your ivory throne you son of a bitch, you’ll never understand! I could’ve tricked myself out like a common street whore or taken this path, I have no regrets and neither will you soon enough, hold still…”
Nicole like her brother, was an orphan on the streets of Tritonia. Although a nuisance, she was generally ignored by the entire populace except by what proved to be all of the wrong people. Preying on her lack of attachments to the world, the lead researchers of the Zenith Day Project used her and her brother as test subjects for many of their early procedures. The children hungry for both food and shelter, came at bargain prices. Research continued at a cautious pace and unlike her brother, Nicole showed serious promise. Promise that was soon to be disrupted by her premature awakening on Hrrac island, which would ultimately cost the researchers two of their most useful subjects.
On Hrrac island, Nicole formed a rather unhealthy resentment towards the Sabellico sisters. Seeing those two fools always together, giggling and laughing as if they had every freedom in the world, was a constant source of irritation for Nicole, who had never experienced friendship. There was barely a moment on the island that thoughts of beating up the twins weren’t at the forefront of her mind, although those temptations never acted upon nor revealed in any sense, not even to her brother – she was too afraid of Cygnus’s retribution: a boy she had already learned to fear due to his unnerving lack of empathy.
After the events on the island, Nicole was left stranded with the other children, each of which were waiting for their parents to come pick them up and console them for their ordeals. A simple enough event that many children wouldn’t remember but Nicole, who knew she had no family coming to pick her up found the experience far more memorable, an exhibit of everything she doesn’t have in the world. That memory serves as a focus point for her irrational hate of the Sabellicos, the memory of them being picked up by their perfectly average, loving family that seemed to care for their daughter enough that the fact their child had been duplicated in a monstrous manner wasn’t even worth mentioning by the doting parents. The Sabellico sisters seemed to have everything Nicole wanted in the world and didn’t even acknowledge their gifts, it was an unforgivable sin. On a more personal level, witnessing the other children being taken away by their parents while waiting for a parent who would not come was a deeply emotional experience, although tainted by hate, it was also heartbreaking. Although it was the only possible conclusion, she desperately didn’t want for her and her brother to be left, waiting alone. As if by providence, her wish was granted and a brand new set of parents arrived to pick up the siblings, two people she had never seen before but unquestionably followed as if it was the natural order. Silently, the siblings left with the two B.A.N.D. operatives to begin a new life.
B.A.N.D.; who had been silently watching the project since its conception, finally found the moment to act and cement their participation in the project. Taking the orphans as their own, they legally adopted them and gave them the family Nicole had always desired. Nicole and Christopher were now both free of the Tritonian laboratory but found themselves imprisoned within a new organization on a coastal Japanese island.
Although B.A.N.D.‘s interests lay entirely on Nicole’s powers, her powers proved impractical in her hands. Unwilling to forsake their stake in the program due to something as insignificant as a weak child, they instead opted to train her in Ninjitsu, helping her find the strength her genetics seemed to withhold. Although her physique rendered her incompetent with the Ninja’s usual arsenal of weapons, she proved talented in the use of firearms – a trait the Ninja were reluctant to encourage but did so just the same, deciding that their participation in the project was too important to risk on a defenseless girl.
Now a fully trained Ninja and a master of gunplay, B.A.N.D. have finally revealed the nature of the Zenith Project to their two most valuable disciples. If either of the siblings were to kill and absorb the energy of all of the other subjects, they would gain their strength and become the perfect Ninja. Nicole’s irrational hatred of the Sabellicos still perfectly intact all of these years later, rendered her all too happy to comply. Her first priority target is Cygnus, knowing quite well that the Sabellicos are infatuated with him and that his death would finally wipe that smile off their faces. Although, Nicole is still incredibly intimidated by the the emotionless man and is too afraid to even give the concept voice, terrified that if she suggested the target to her brother, Cygnus would be aware and kill her himself.
Archetype: The Outsider
Alignment: Miscreant (Evil)
Motivation: Make the Sabellico sisters suffer
Disposition: A ruthless woman that doesn’t concern herself with morality. She is intensely selfish and wants everything, but rather than a exhibit a semi-healthy greed, her actions are more destructive, with the desire to take from others rather than earn for herself.
Weight: 101 lbs.
Appearance: A petite woman, barely developed more than a child. She has blonde hair and eyes consumed with an evident glimmer of hate. She often wears disguises, wigs and contact lenses of unnatural colors (purple, green, etc.) when on a mission; a misleading distinguishing feature is infinitely more valuable at throwing off investigators than even the best ninja body suit.
